HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-23-2016 scm-pm City Council of Peachtree City Special Called Meeting Minutes August 23, 2016 6:30 p.m. The Mayor and Council of Peachtree City met in a special called meeting on Thursday, August 23, 2016, at City Hall. Mayor Vanessa Fleisch called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. Other Council Members attending: Terry Ernst, Mike King, Kim Learnard, and Phil Prebor. The purpose of the special called meeting was to hold a public hearing on the 2016 millage rate. Financial Services Director Paul Salvatore said this was the second of three required public hearings regarding the proposed tax increase. The Maintenance & Operation millage rate would stay the same at 6.765 mills. There would be a slight reduction in the bond millage rate, which would be reduced from 0.314 mills to 0.309 mills. The total millage rate would be reduced from 7.07 mills to 7.065 mills. Those residents who saw an increase in the assessed value of their property would experience a tax increase. The total increase in net digest values (all) was 5.2%. The increase in assessed values of real property in the City for 2016 was 6.1%. The proposed tax increase for a home with a fair market value of $275,000 was approximately$33 or$2.75 per month. Salvatore noted that the City had basically recovered from the hit it had taken during the recession. Mayor Fleisch opened the public hearing. No members of the public spoke either for or against the proposed tax rate. The public hearing closed. No action by Council was required.
